Artorias was twisted into a foul creature in his own right, but he managed to spare Sif a similarly grave fate. Sensing impeding doom, Artorias used his greatshield to protect Sif, leaving himself completely defenseless to the Abyss' onslaught.
The wills of Artorias and Sif were strong, ironclad even, but they were not enough to withstand the corrupting influence of the Abyss. As Artorias and Sif fought onward, they grew closer and closer to source of the corruption in their lands, the infamous Abyss. Sif is the loyal pet of the fabled knight Artorias and the wolf stuck by its master's side through thick and thin, fighting seemingly unending hordes of undead creatures and twisted monstrosities. The Great Grey Wolf Sif is undisputedly the most famous canine in the Dark Souls series, though this is due to its tragic story.
